By Ray Hamill — Just a few days after winning the program’s first conference championship in 40 years, five College of the Redwoods women were honored on the all-GVC teams.

Ashley Quigley, Dennise Horton and Bree Northern were each named to the all-conference first team, while teammates Darienne Kartes and Brianna Green were each named honorable mention.

Quigley, a former Arcata Tiger, led the team with 17.6 points a game and was particularly dangerous from 3-point range.

She was also nominated for all-state and named to the all-conference freshmen team along with Horton.

The Del Norte grad averaged 12.3 points and 9.5 rebounds a game, the latter of which was tied for third best in conference.

Northern, another Arcata standout, added 10.2 points a game and a team-leading 3.7 assists.

Kartes, a Fortuna grad, had 5.5 boards a game, while Green, who hails from Florida, averaged 6.5 rebounds and 3.4 assists.

Chloe Mayor was named conference MVP for the Butte Roadrunners, who were co-champions with the Corsairs.

Unlike the men, there is no coach of the year award for the GVC women.

The Corsairs will find out their playoff seed and opponent on Sunday.
