By Ray Hamill — The Fortuna High girls are enjoying a dominating season on the basketball court at all three levels, with the freshmen, JVs and varsity teams all winning key games at Eureka on Wednesday night.

The Huskies won the varsity game 50-41 to go to 5-1 in the Big 5 and leave them on the verge of a first league title in more than a decade.

A win in either of their final two league games will give them at least a share of the title, while two wins would guarantee the championship outright.

And they’re not alone in setting the standard in conference play.

Check out some of the highlights from Wednesday’s varsity game, including big baskets by Charlotte Carroll, Kendall Stewart, Saige Grundman and Gracie Betts.

The Fortuna JVs and freshmen are both now 6-0 in the Big 5, as they each inch closer to a perfect league campaign.

The JVs won 41-29, improving to 17-3 overall, while the freshmen won 43-34, improving to 17-4.

Coupled with the varsity girls’ impressive 19-2 overall record — the team’s most wins in a season since they went 20-9 back in 2010 — all three Fortuna teams have a combined record of 53-9 this winter.

The program appears to be in pretty good hands.
