Another game, another 80-point day for the Corsairs, and another different player stepping up.

This time it was Zac Claus, who scored 24 points, including a remarkable seven 3-pointers, as the College of the Redwoods men stretched their winning streak to 11 straight in basketball with an 80-68 victory at Lassen on Saturday.

“When we needed Zac Claus the most, he was there for us every time,” CR head coach Ryan Bisio said. “He was sensational. It seemed like every one of his 3s were daggers.”

The win closed out a wild road trip that saw a Thursday game postponed, before the CR men played two games within 23 hours.

And with it, the Corsairs are now in sole possession of first place in Golden Valley Conference standings with three wins in three conference games.

The only other unbeaten team is Siskiyous, which is 1-0 (7-11 overall) and will travel to CR for a Wednesday evening showdown.

Drew Gillette closed out an impressive road trip with 17 points in Saturday’s win, giving the ever-consistent former Fortuna Husky 46 points in two games.

Thomas Nelson also had a big game with 15 points, while Donald Willis chipped in 11.

As a team, the Corsairs drained 15 3-pointers, giving them 28 in the two road games.

The CR men, who are now 16-3 overall and have not lost since mid-November, also hit the 80-point mark for the 11th straight game, all of them wins.
