By Ray Hamill — Friday night’s boys basketball showdown between the Del Norte Warriors and Arcata Tigers in Crescent City will now be for the Big 5 lead.
Both teams won their second conference game on Wednesday night to go to 2-0, which means the league lead will now be up for grabs when the two programs meet in two days in the first of two conference showdowns between them this season.
“That’ll be a big one for both teams,” Del Norte head coach Marc Slayton said after his team’s impressive 53-35 win at Fortuna on Wednesday night.
Friday’s showdown in Crescent City will be the first home game in conference for the Warriors, who are 13-1 overall and have opened the Big 5 with big road wins at Eureka and Fortuna.
ARCATA AND EUREKA HIGHLIGHTS
The Tigers, who are 13-6 overall after Wednesday’s 54-42 win at home to Eureka, have been equally impressive through the early season.
And head coach Dusty Scofield and his players won’t back down from the challenge.
“Del Norte’s playing really well, so we’ve got our work cut out for us,” Scofield said. “But if we execute our defensive game plan and find our offense we’ll be okay.”
Game time is set for 7:30 p.m.
