The South Fork Cubs got their Little 4 campaign off to a winning start in boys basketball on Wednesday night, rallying from a halftime deficit with a big third quarter and holding on to beat Ferndale 67-56 in Miranda.
After being outscored by nine in the second quarter, the home team outscored the visitors 25-9 in the third to take back momentum and take control of the game.
Alex Harding scored a team-high 17 points for the Cubs in what was a back-and-forth game, while teammate Riley Gallagher finished with 12 points and Oliver Tatton 11.
For Ferndale, which dropped to 0-1 in the Little 4 and 12-6 overall, Emmitt Albee continued to impress with a game-high 19 points, while Tristen Martin finished with 14 points.
The Cats rallied from an early deficit themselves with a big second quarter to lead by four at halftime.
But they were unable to keep the momentum going after the break and were held to single digits in scoring in two of the four quarters.
Next up on Friday night, the Ferndale boys will play at St. Bernard’s, while the Cubs (8-4 overall) will play at Hoopa.
In JV action on Wednesday, the Cubs beat the Wildcats in a high-scoring game, 95-71.
