Redwoods men continue fast start in basketball

The Corsairs continued their fast start to the men’s basketball season with a second win in two days at the San Jose Tip Off on Friday, defeating Foothill 56-53.

It was another strong performance by the Corsairs, who feature a talented group of local all-stars this fall and have set a blistering pace in their opening two games.

“They were unbelievable,” first-year head coach Ryan Bisio said of his players. “These guys are really, really good.

“Coming off such an emotional win the day before (over the host school), to come back and win this one the way we did against a real good team was unbelievable.”
Drew Gillette paced the Corsairs with 20 points, while Isaac Puzz added 10.

Gillette nailed one of his four 3s late in the game to break the Foothill challenge, while sophomore EJ Jackson stepped up big late in the second half to lead the way.

“I can’t tell you how impressed EJ’s leadership was down the stretch,” Bisio said.

Jackson finished with nine points, while Thomas Nelson added seven.

The Corsairs will close out the season-opening tournament against Monterey Peninsula on Saturday at 11 a.m.
