Ray Hamill/HumboldtSports.com – A huge crowd showed up at Albee Stadium a year ago for the Eureka/St. Bernard’s game and the same is expected this weekend at Crusader Field.

By Ray Hamill — If you want to get a seat for Saturday’s big showdown between Eureka and St. Bernard’s at Crusader Field, you better get there early.

The crosstown rivals will meet on the football field for just the third time ever and a large crowd is expected to be on hand.

The two programs played 12 months ago for the first time in over 50 years at Albee Stadium in front a huge crowd there.

Seating at Crusader Field, however, is nowhere near as plentiful.

“We’re expecting a monster crowd,” St. Bernard’s head coach Matt Tomlin said.

Adding to the excitement, many people feel the Crusaders have a great chance to knock off their crosstown rivals, who are struggling with injuries right now.

Quarterback Trevor Bell and defensive standout Chase “Biscuit” Steubing are both carrying injuries suffered at practice and unlikely to play.

The Crusaders tried to add extra seating for the big game, but were unable to do so.

Game time is set for 1 p.m.

  1. Will Saint Bernard Bill complain about size this week too?

Or does it depend on wins and losses…

  2. The answer is a resounding yes Henchman. If you read my last comment to you on this issue, I agreed with you….that is when you stated, ” Personally, leagues should be filled with comparable student populus…..” (from your earlier posting).

When there is a decision that is not practicable, sustainable, or fair, yes I will complain. Sometimes wrongs get right, hopefully this will be the case when HDNL decides at end of year if this experiment of their’s is working. SB may not have enough numbers to field a team next year.

I still agree with you 100% Henchman, leagues are based on school size not school record. Nothing else needs to be said.
