Ray Hamill/HumboldtSports.com – Thea Trout kept the Fortuna defense on its toes on Wednesday night.

By Ray Hamill — Two things stood out about Thea Trout’s late goal for Arcata at Fortuna on Wednesday.

One, it was as good a team goal as you’ll see all year, with each pass precise and considered.

Goalkeeper Skaidra Pulley set the move in motion with a long clearance to Jocelyn Bliven, who immediately found teammate Zakiya Elloway, who in turn sent a perfectly placed ball over the Fortuna defense to an onrushing Trout.

Trout’s finish was perfect, shooting across the goal into the bottom corner.

The second thing about the goal is that it highlights an outstanding crop of young players in the H-DNL this year.

Trout isn’t the only freshman to be impressing in league play this year.

Players like Eureka’s Jordan Brown and Amelia Staiano, South Fork’s Summer Contreras and Macy Yarbrough, St. Bernard’s Adriana Granados and McKinleyville’s Taya Gomes have all announced their presence in style this fall.

The future of the H-DNL appears to be in good hands.

  1. AHS forward used hand signaling to communicate the pass being requested… very heady!

The pass by the midfielder was excellent!

The release by the goalkeeper was excellent!

Given the above excellence, without question, there is no excuse for the goalkeeper to not get down onto the pitch for that average shot on goal… it was like the goalkeeper was out to dinner or something… or maybe texting a friend that the South Bay fog Bank was rolling in…

    … definitely a head scratcher…
