Jaden Gorge came up big for the Humboldt Eagles 19U team on Friday, scoring the winning run in an exciting game two of an American Legion baseball doubleheader at Fairfield, and also getting the win on the mound.
Gorge doubled in the seventh and then scored moments later on a Kalebh Hill double, as the Eagles came from behind to pull out an 8-7 win in the nightcap and secure a two-game sweep.
Earlier in the day, the Eagles took the opener by a more comfortable 8-0 margin.
In game two, the Eagles trailed 5-1 and 7-4 before the late comeback, with Gorge pitching two scoreless innings out of the bullpen for the win.
He wasn’t the only hero.
At the plate, Hunter Davis was 3-for-3, while Hill had a pair of doubles.
Defensively, shortstop Cody Emmons stepped up big to end the game on a diving catch with the tying run on second.
McKinleyville standout Cameron Saso had a big game on the mound in the opener, allowing just two hits in five scoreless innings for the win.
Gannon Cyphers and Brady Munson each pitched an inning in relief to secure the shutout.
At the plate, Gorge, Garrison Finck, Caleb Ruiz and Landon Gomes each had two hits to lead the way.
The Eagles, who improved to 30-9, will play two league games at Chico on Saturday.
