By Ray Hamill — The main event lasted just eight seconds at the Bear River Casino Fight Night on Saturday, as headliner and local favorite Louis Cosce ended his fight against Sir Gregory McGowan quickly and decisively.

Cosce, a former Hoopa High wrestler, set a new Bear River Fight Night record in the process, catching McGowan with a kick to the head right at the outset of their 170-pound fight and ending it in mere seconds with a flurry of punches.

“Louis is an absolute monster,” fight night promoter Brian Wilson of Hard Fought Productions said. “And I think when you see him fighting, he’s a scary guy. Fans are lucky to see him.”

Cosce, who is affiliated with the Lost Boys gym in Arcata, headlined an exciting night of action, with several other local fighters on the card.

Ross Lopez, who also fights out of the Lost Boys gym, defeated Tim Hayden out of Fortuna Redwood Muay Thai in an all-local 160-pound kick boxing showdown.

Two other Lost Boys fighters, Jacob Hodge and Kaeron Corbett, each won their fights, while Tyler Watkins lost to an unbeaten Scotty Stockman out of Medford, Oregon, in a 145-pound title fight.

Locals Walter Craig and Thomas Mlakar each lost their fights.

“It was a great night. I thought the fights were entertaining and no one got seriously injured,” Wilson said.

Cosce stole the show and has been taking the MMA world by storm along with his brother Orion since they both turned pro.

“There’s something electric about him,” said Wilson. “Him and his brother really are next level talent, and I don’t know how many more times we’ll see him locally.”

Both Cosce brothers are now 3-0 in professional fights.

Saturday’s event was the second of four fight nights scheduled for Bear River Casino this year, and was once again a sellout.
