Mixed day for Redwoods teams

The College of the Redwoods baseball team is getting hot with the season winding down.

The Corsairs made it two straight wins with an 11-4 victory over Shasta at Bomber Field in Eureka on Friday, improving to 5-28 overall and 3-19 in the Golden Valley Conference.

And once again sophomore James Garcia was instrumental for the home team, pitching six innings for the win, allowing just one run on four hits.

Garcia, who is enjoying an outstanding season despite the team’s struggles, struck out eight and walked four.

Hakeem Sadon pitched three innings in relief for the save, allowing three runs on four hits, while striking out five.

At the plate, Gannon Cyphers had a big day in the win, finishing 4-for-5, while Angelo Flores was 3-for-3 with four RBIs.

The two teams play a single game at Bomber Field on Saturday, with first pitch at noon.
