The College of the Redwoods women’s soccer team holds the early lead in the Golden Valley Conference standings after a big road win over the weekend.
Also in action over the weekend, both Cal Poly Humboldt teams played at Cal State San Bernardino and Cal State Dominguez Hills.
The Humboldt men lost both games, falling 3-1 and 4-0, while the Humboldt women split, losing 2-0 at San Bernardino and beating Dominguez Hills 1-0.
Former St. Bernard’s Crusader Sahara Tupua scored both goals in a 2-1 win for the CR women in their conference opener at Shasta on Friday.
Tupua, a freshman, netted the only goal of the second half after both teams went into the break tied at 1-1.
The win stretches the team’s unbeaten tun to three straight, following a win at Marin and a tie against Napa Valley earlier in the week.
The women, who are now 3-5-1 overall, will try to continue their impressive run when they travel to play Butte in their second conference game on Friday.
Kickoff is set for 11 a.m.
The CPH women are now 3-1 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association.
Sari Murphy scored the only goal of the game in the second half at Dominguez Hills on Sunday, her fourth of the season.
The victory was a nice response from the team after being out-shot 18-8 at San Bernardino two days earlier.
The Jacks return home to play Cal State Los Angeles on Friday (noon) and Cal Poly Pomona on Sunday (11 a.m.).
Humboldt is now 5-3-2 overall and is tied with Stanislaus State for second place in the CCAA standings, trailing leaders Chico State (3-0-1) by half a game.
The Cal Poly Humboldt men had a disappointing road trip, dropping both games.
Former Arcata Tiger Izaiah Grosveld netted the only goal of the weekend for the team at San Bernardino, his fourth of the year.
Grosveld and the Jacks will try to bounce back when they host Los Angeles on Friday afternoon at 3, before also playing Cal Poly Pomona on Sunday at 2 p.m.
The Jacks, who have dropped three straight, are 1-3 in conference and 2-5-3 overall,
They are tied for 10th in the conference standings.
