By Ray Hamill — Four Little 4 games that could very well decide the fate of this year’s conference championships in baseball and softball highlight another busy week in the H-DNL.
But the weather and field conditions have forced some changes to the schedule.
In softball, Little 4 co-leaders South Fork and Hoopa were scheduled to play a pivotal doubleheader in Miranda on Tuesday, but those games have been pushed back because of the weather.
The Cubs, who have won six straight games, are 5-1 and tied atop the standings with the Warriors, who have won seven of their last eight games and are also 5-1 in the L4.
The potential conference-deciding doubleheader has tentatively been rescheduled for Friday afternoon.
In Little 4 baseball, meanwhile, the weather has also forced a couple of changes.
Unbeaten conference leader St. Bernard’s (6-0 in the L4 and 15-0 overall) was scheduled to host second-placed Ferndale (4-2 and 12-2) on Tuesday afternoon and then travel to the Cream City on Thursday, but Tuesday’s game has been postponed, while Thursday’s game is still scheduled to go ahead.
Tuesday’s postponed game will now take place on Friday afternoon at 4 as part of a doubleheader along with a non-conference game against Del Norte at 1 .
The Wildcats will likely have to win both of their games against SB to keep their championship hopes alive.
Also in the Little 4 this week, the Ferndale girls were scheduled to play a softball doubleheader against St. Bernard’s at the Bear River Sports Complex on Tuesday afternoon, and those games have been postponed as well.
Those two games will now take place on Thursday afternoon at 2.
The Hoopa and South Fork boys were also scheduled to play two games this week, in Miranda on Tuesday and at Hoopa on Thursday.

But the weather has forced a change, with Tuesday’s game now moved back to Friday, while Thursday’s game is still scheduled to go ahead.
In Big 5 baseball and softball, meanwhile, there are four games scheduled for Wednesday and eight more on Saturday.
The midweek matchups feature the first home games of the conference schedule for Fortuna.
The Huskies are scheduled to host Eureka in baseball and softball, while both Del Norte teams are scheduled to play at Arcata.
All four of those games are set for 4 p.m.
It’s been a good opening half of the conference schedule for both McKinleyville teams, who each lead the way in the conference standings and have a midweek bye before resuming conference play at the weekend.
On Saturday, the Panthers will play doubleheaders in baseball and softball at Fortuna, while both Eureka teams will play doubleheaders at Arcata.
