Four of the nine H-DNL schools that competed in winter sports have been singled out for the sportsmanship they displayed over the past three months.
This week, the league congratulated the four schools, a group that includes Del Norte, Ferndale, Fortuna and St. Bernard’s.
The four were the only league schools to have no ejections from sporting events in basketball or wrestling.
According to the league, “All of their teams displayed positive/appropriate sportsmanship throughout the entire season.”
Both Del Norte and Fortuna had eight teams each competing in winter sports — freshmen, JV and varsity boys and girls basketball, as well as boys and girls wrestling.
St. Bernard’s had seven teams competing — freshmen, JV and varsity boys basketball, JV and varsity girls basketball and boys and girls wrestling — while Ferndale competed in JV and varsity boys and girls basketball, as well as boys and girls wrestling.
“The HDNL appreciates each school’s Athletic Director, their coaches, players and student representatives participating on the League’s Student Athletic Advisory Council (SAAC), for their efforts and focus on respectful interaction with both opponents and officials,” the league said in a press release.
