It was a good start to 2026 for seventh-grader Jade Lysander, as the Humboldt Composite Mountain Bike Team traveled to Monterey for the opening event of the season last weekend.
Lysander led the way at Fort Ord in the first of five events of the spring for a team made up of sixth through 12th grade riders from around the county and representing several local schools.
Lysander placed third out of a large field of 70 in the seventh-grade boys race.
His teammates Theo Loya (21st), Maceo McCasland (43rd) and Rai Dirschel also competed in the seventh-grade race.
Among the other highlights for the local team, Seren Thomas placed fifth in the seventh-grade girls race, while Dinon McIntosh finished 17th out of 42 riders in the varsity event.
Asa Jules also had a good day for the local team, finishing 11th out of 69 riders in the JV1 category, with teammate Grayden Larsen placing 50th in the same race.
In eighth grade boys action, Humboldt’s Sylas Kauffman finished 28th out of 80 riders, while Oliver Bullwinkle came in 14th out of a large field of 84 riders in the JV2 event, followed by teammates Landon Larsen in 27th and Sawyer Katri in 44th.
In freshman action, Humboldt’s Toben Jules placed 27th out of 86 riders, while teammates Dai Thomas finished in 35th and Bodie Benzinger in 38th.
And rounding out a busy day for the local team, Humboldt’s Josef Salata placed 17th out of 40 riders in the sixth-grade boys race.
