Just three points separated the top three H-DNL girls teams at the weekend North Coast Section Division-2 Redwood Empire Divisional wrestling championships.
The HDN schools traveled to Novato for the section tournament, with the Fortuna Huskies leading the way and placing fourth out of 26 schools.
The Huskies scored 124 team points, edging fifth-placed Del Norte (122.5) and sixth-placed Arcata (121) in a really tight race for fourth.
Two local girls took home an individual championship, including another strong showing by Arcata freshman Taylor Bell, who won at 110 pounds.
Del Norte senior Karlye Dodson also placed first in the 140 bracket, one of three Warriors to place in the top three in their weight divisions.
Also impressing for the league teams, Fortuna’s Tiffany Krause finished second at 115, while Allie Bartley finished second at 105 and Arcata’s Aleta Stubblefield was second at 125.
Five league wrestlers finished third in their weight divisions, including Fortuna’s Allison Watson (135), Natasha Lanza (140) and Bella Mora (145), Del Norte’s Golden Rule (100) and Arcata’s Jada Lusk (115)
Rounding out a good day for the Huskies, Myla Kirk placed fourth, Ashten Moore placed fifth and Serenity Anderson and Meztli Chinas both finished eighth.
The smaller league schools were also in action at the D-3 NCS Divisional tournament at Clear Lake High, with two grapplers in particular enjoying big weekends.
Hoopa’s Andee Lewis placed second in the 100-pound weight class, while Ferndale’s Abby Bibby finished third at 135.
