Few teams in the H-DNL can match the remarkable consistency of the St. Bernard’s girls basketball team.
On Monday night, the Crusaders traveled to Crescent City for a non-conference game and came away with a 50-44 win to go to 18-6 on the season.
The victory moves them within two wins of a fourth straight 20-win regular season, something they can achieve before the week is out.
It was also their 11th win in their last 13 games, including their third over a Big 5 school in that run.
“I am super proud of the entire team today,” St. Bernard’s head coach Matt Tomlin said. “They picked up a win in a tough road environment over a good Big 5 team.”
But they had to battle for it.
Early in the game, the Crusaders trailed 9-0, before coming to life and taking control with a big second quarter.
Samantha Sundberg and Carli Baum helped key the comeback, as the Crusaders scored 17 straight points.
“We came out looking good and held them off,” Del Norte head coach Nick Perez said. “We couldn’t weather the storm in the second quarter. From then we just played behind.”
Sundberg hit two big 3-pointers to help get her teammates going while Baum provided a spark with multiple first-half steals and layups.
“Sam and Carli were both electric tonight,” Tomlin added.

Baum finished with a game-high 18 points, while Sundberg added 16 points.
Bliss Blackburn and Jaylee Keeling each scored a team-high 11 points for the hosts, while Josephine Antonetti added seven points.
With the loss, Del Norte dropped to 10-10 on the season.
CJ Figas added seven points for the visitors, while Macie Wantt chipped in six points.
“Girls fought hard, just too late of a run to catch up,” Perez said.
Kansas Coulson and Gianna Antonetti each added five points for Del Norte.
Both teams will resume conference play this week.
On Tuesday night, St. Bernard’s travels to South Fork in the Little 4, while on Thursday Del Norte hosts Fortuna in Big 5 action.
The Crusaders, who were crowned at least co-champs of the Little 4 last week, can win the championship outright with a victory over the Cubs.
This is the fourth straight conference crown for the SB girls, who lave not lost a Little 4 game since Hoopa beat them in February of 2023.
