The St. Bernard’s boys took over sole possession of top spot in the Little 4 standings with their 13th straight win on Thursday night.
The Crusaders traveled to Miranda to play South Fork and came away with a comfortable 70-41 win to go to 2-0 in conference play.
And with the Ferndale Wildcats getting the better of the Warriors in Hoopa by a score of 59-55, that leaves the SB boys all alone in first.
Several players contributed in the win for St. Bernard’s, including Carson Costa and Prince Latimer, who each finished with a team-high 13 points.
“Really happy with the ball movement tonight,” St. Bernard’s head coach Pat Shanahan said. “Our shot selection is improving and our trust for each is growing as well.”
Latimer helped get the Crusaders off to a fast start, as they improved to 15-1 on the season.
“Prince’s energy on defense set the tone early with a couple steals and easy buckets,” Shanahan said of the senior guard, who also had three assists.
Liam Dyer also had a good night in the win and finished with 12 points, six rebounds and three assists, while teammate Trenten Hagler added 10 points and five assists.
“Trenten ran the offense with confidence and got to his spots for some scoring opportunities,” the SB coach added.
Tyler Hinrichs, Burke Morrow, Luke Brunton and Dang Lee each also contributed as Shanahan was able to give several players plenty of game time.
“It was good to see a number of our guys get some quality minutes and use the skills they’ve been working hard to improve,” the coach said. ‘We look forward to practice tomorrow and another challenging game on Saturday versus Del Norte.”
The St. Bernard’s coach also praised the efforts of the South Fork players, whom he said played hard all the way to the final buzzer.
No stats were immediately available for the Cubs, who dropped to 0-2 in the Little 4 and 8-10 overall.
