The College of the Redwoods women closed out their pre-conference schedule in basketball with a non-tournament road game on Saturday afternoon, falling 70-57 to a quality Skyline team.

With the loss, the CR women dropped to 8-8 on the season as they get set for their conference opener at Shasta next week.

One day after scoring a season-high in points in an 89-65 win at Mission, Redwoods struggle offensively against a 10-5 Trojans team.

“We got off to a bit of a slow start in the game,” CR head coach Bree Northern said. “We were struggling to hit shots from the 3.”

Mia Hoogendoorn led the way offensively for the visitors and finished with a team-high 19 points, but no other CR player scored in double digits.

However, despite the loss Northern felt her team battled hard.

“Skyline did a good job getting to the rim and we had a hard time stopping them,” she said. “We never gave up though and almost came back, but just fell short in the end.”

Itzel Torres added nine points in the loss, while Paityn Erlenbush and Nora Talty each had seven points and Addison Wingate finished with six points.

The CR women will open conference play at Shasta on Wednesday night.

Tip off is set for 5 p.m.
