The Crusaders capped an impressive pre-conference schedule with their 10th straight win in basketball on Saturday afternoon.

The St. Bernard’s boys were competing at the Nike TOC in Phoenix, Arizona, and won for the third straight day to take home the tournament championship.

The high-flying Crusaders, who are ranked No. 14 in the North Coast Section and are the top-ranked Division-5 program in the state, defeated Queen Creek of Arizona 72-52 in Saturday’s tournament decider.

And, according to head coach Pat Shanahan, it was a complete team effort.

“Our squad completed this trip with our most complete game of the weekend,” the head coach said. “The guys played hard on both ends of the court, learned from the first two games and executed.”

The Crusaders also beat Westwood 70-46 and North Salem 55-49 in tournament action on Thursday and Friday.

Senior Liam Dyer capped three bigs days in Arizona with another strong all-around performance in the final, finishing with 19 points, seven rebounds and six assists.

Senior Carson Costa added 14 points in the win, while influential junior Garrett Shanahan finished with 11 points and seven rebounds.

The SB players did a good job sharing the ball.

“We had 21 assists. That says it all right there,” Pat Shanahan said. “We moved the ball incredibly well today.”

Senior Prince Latimer is another player who has been playing at a high level on a deep, talented and experienced St. Bernard’s roster and finished with 10 points and five assists.

Another senior, Tyler Hinrichs, chipped in eight points, as the Crusaders improved to 12-1.

“Happy for our guys and the positive results they are seeing reinforcing their commitment to improvement,” the head coach added. “Our entire team played and contributed in this game. They all played tough solid minutes.”

Next up, the Crusaders will tip off conference play at Ferndale on Thursday.
