Just a few days after four of their players were included among the nominees for the Cal Hi Sports state teams of the year, the accolades continue for the Ferndale Wildcats.
On Monday, the Cats were named the Cal Hi Sports Division-5 team of the year.
It was an historic fall for Ferndale, which posted a perfect regular season and dominated all of its opponents on the way to a 10-0 record.
They did not allow any points through their opening eight games and gave up just three touchdowns in the regular season while overwhelming their opponents in all phases of the game.
The Cats continued to play a very high level in the North Coast Section playoffs, winning three more games and claiming a 15th all-time section championship, which is most ever by an NCS public school.
Not bad for a school that has the smallest student population among 11-player football programs in the NCS.
On Monday, Mark Tennis of Cal Hi Sports included the Little 4 champs among his state teams of the year, with the Cats getting the nod in Division 5.
According to Tennis, Ferndale “has had an outstanding tradition of small town, small school football success.”
The Wildcats were named D5 state team of the year once before in 2012.
