By Ray Hamill — Eight H-DNL players have been nominated for the Cal Hi Sports all-state football teams, including four from the history-making Ferndale Wildcats.
Cal Hi Sports announced the nominees from the North Coast Section on Friday, with a large contingent of local standouts included in the pool of 101 players.
After leading the Wildcats to a 15th all-time section crown and the state playoff semifinals, seniors Tanner Pidgeon, Prescott Langer and Ethan Weitzel are all included in the nominees, along with junior teammate Christian Enriquez.
Two Arcata Tigers and two St.Bernard’s Crusaders are also included in the list of nominees.
Seniors Kohlton Hall and Jahseree Bailey get the nod for SB, while seniors Luke Lemke and Lincoln Neuman are both included for Arcata.
Pidgeon, Langer and Weitzel were all two-way players for the Cats, who set a state record for most points scored by a team in the regular season with 647.
Pidgeon played quarterback and safety, while Langer was a force at running back, tight end and linebacker and Weitzel anchored both lines.
Enriquez was included as a kicker after also enjoying a standout season with the Little 4 champs.
Bailey and Hall, meanwhile, were included as defensive linemen from a St. Bernard’s team that shared the Big 4 championship with Fortuna and made it to the NCS semifinals.
Lemke got the call at quarterback and Neuman was included as linebacker.
