By Ray Hamill — Hard work and dedication to their craft has paid off for three Little 4 MVPs.

This week, the H-DNL announced the 2025 Little 4 All-League team and MVPs, and as expected conference champs Ferndale are well represented.

Freshman forward Madison Hagemann, who enjoyed a stellar debut campaign at the high school level, was named co-outfield MVP, along with St. Bernard’s senior forward Eliana Sellars.

Ferndale senior Tinnley Pidgeon was also honored and named conference MVP goalkeeper for the third straight year.

Hagemann was the most dangerous goalscorer in the entire H-DNL and finished with 31 goals while playing a pivotal role in Ferndale’s conference and North Coast Section championship double.

“Madison’s soccer IQ is what makes her MVP material,” Ferndale head coach Bailey Davy said. “She doesn’t just play the game, she truly understands the game.

“Of course, physically what she is able to do on the field makes her a great player, but the knowledge she has of the game is what sets her apart.”

When she wasn’t scoring, the freshman standout was often creating chances for her teammates and she finished with eight assists, third most on the team.

“It’s pretty incredible when you really evaluate Madison as a player,” Davy added. “She rarely says a thing or reacts on the field. She gets pushed down, she gets up. She gets fouled, she gets double teamed, she just keeps going.”

Hagemann is also one of the hardest working players in the H-DNL, often working on her game before school or after practice.

“She doesn’t just work hard in games, she works on her game every single day,” Davy said. “She’s motivated, she’s driven, she’s extremely coachable, she’s diverse, she’s a team player, the list goes on.”

She’s also the type of player who leads by example, and a player with a bright future in the game.

“She was a huge asset to our program, and I love that this is just the beginning for her,” Davy said. “She will do great things in soccer for Ferndale and beyond. Congratulations Madison.”

Sellars was just as influential for the Crusaders and one of the best players in the H-DNL with the ball at her feet.

Eliana Sellars

“She’s a player who sets the tone every single day with her work ethic and competitiveness, as well as her commitment to getting better,” her father and St. Bernard’s head coach Jeff Sellars said. “On the technical side, her foot skills are exceptional and she really sees the field very well.”

I addition to her goalscoring abilities, the young Sellars also played a creative role for the team.

“She’s our assist leader for a reason,” Jeff Sellars added. “Her passing ability elevates everyone around her and turns good moments into scoring opportunities.”

Like Hagemann, Eliana Sellars also is one of the hardest working players in the H-DNL.

“Beyond the technical side, she holds herself to a standard of improving every day,” the coach said. “This award reflects not just her talent, but the dedication she pours into the game and the impact she has on this team.

“We’re incredibly proud of her. Winning MVP is a well-deserved recognition of everything she brings to this program.”

Pidgeon, meanwhile, is also a tremendous leader who works extremely hard on her game.

“From the very beginning of the season to the end, she was a leader for our team,” Ferndale goalkeeper coach Brenden McDonald said. “Communicating on the field with her teammates, as well as off the field, and trying to make everyone better as a team,” McDonald said. “These leadership qualities have always been with Tinnley, but this year they really showed.”

The Cats finished 19-2-1, including an 8-1 record in conference, and they posted a remarkable 14 shutouts, with Pidgeon playing a key role in that between the posts.

“The other thing that comes to mind about Tinnley is work ethic,” McDonald added. “She is always trying to get better and that makes everyone else want to get better as well.

“She is a great goalkeeper and her skills on the field have gotten even better this season, but the leadership and work ethic really set her apart.”

McDonald feels it was a well-deserved honor.

“She really deserves the MVP after the season that she had and (she) played a huge role in the season Ferndale had as a team,” he said.

In addition to Hagemann and Pidgeon, five other Ferndale plays received all-league recognition, including three who also made the all-league team.

Defenders Michaela Ellsmore and Claire Renner each were included on the all-league team, along with midfielder Madison Gossi.

Madison Hagemann’s older sister, sophomore midfielder Macie Hagemann, received an honorable mention, along with Teresa Catana.

Eliana Sellars’ teammate Alyssa Boham also was named to the all-league team, along with a trio of Del Norte players, Avery Ritter, Jaden Bennett and Hollyn Wakefield.

South Fork goalkeeper Aurora Galaz and teammate Kara Worswick rounded out the all-league team.
