The Cal Poly Humboldt women’s soccer team has had one of the best defenses in the California Collegiate Athletic Association this season, but they needed the team offense to get over the line on Thursday.

The Lumberjacks traveled to Chico State and tied 3-3 in their final conference game.

And that tie was just enough to secure a CCAA tournament berth.

Humboldt closed out the regular season with a record of 6-5-7 overall and 4-2-5 in conference play and finished tied for fifth in the standings.

That sets up a conference tournament opening game at Cal State San Bernardino on Sunday.

If the Jacks beat the Coyotes, they will advance to next week’s tournament semifinals, which will tale place at Cal State Monterey Bay on Friday.

The Jacks trailed early on Thursday, but rallied to score three straight goals and led by two early in the second half.

But the Wildcats would come storming back to secure a share of the spoils and second place in the final conference standings.

Heidie Munoz scored the opening goal for the visitors and assisted on the third goal, with Sari Murphy and Morgan Young each also scoring.

With six goals combined, this was the highest scoring game for the Jacks in conference play.
