CR tournament highlights busy week on the mats for local teams

Local wrestling fans will have the opportunity to check out some quality college competition here on the North Coast this weekend.

On Saturday, the College of the Redwoods men will cap a busy few days when they the Redwoods Duals tournament.

The action gets under way at CR at 10 a.m. and the four-team tournament also includes Cal Poly Humboldt, Sierra College and Southwest Oregon Community College.

The tournament kicks off what will be a pivotal month on the calendar for the CR grapplers, who also are scheduled to host the State Duals Championships on Nov. 23.

On Tuesday, CR also hosted Lassen in a dual match and lost 43-12.

The highlight of the day for CR was the performances of former H-DNL standouts Isaiah Bell of Arcata and Knolin Callender of Eureka.

Both Bell and Callender won their matches by pin.
