It will be a quick turnaround for the College of the Redwoods volleyball team, as the CR women get set for a trip to play Butte on Friday.

On Wednesday afternoon, Redwoods hosted Siskiyous and fell 25-15, 25-18, 25-20, dropping to 0-3 in the Golden Valley Conference.

But head coach Macy Thomas believes the team is close to getting that first conference win, as her players grew into Wednesday’s game.

“Our team continues to show that we are capable of competing in this conference,” she said. “We just need to do some more work on finishing.

“But I am very pleased with the growth they are showing day after day.”

Despite the loss, there were some bright spots for the CR women, who pushed the visitors closer in each set.

The team serving was impressive, as was the play of Lily Rust-Kelley and Olivia Hommer, who each “had great nights defensively and offensively,” according to Thomas.

The Redwoods players practiced early on Thursday before hitting the road in the afternoon ahead of Friday’s game against a beatable Butte team that is 1-3 in the GVC.

“We had a great session,” Thomas added. “The girls were very focused and communicative and you can tell they’re looking forward on building onto their progress to secure some wins here soon.”

CR is now 3-12 overall, while Butte is 7-15.

Friday’s game is set for 3 p.m.

CR will then return home to host Lassen on Wednesday.
