Little 4 champs honor their seniors before final conference game

The St. Bernard’s Crusaders closed out a dominating conference campaign with another straight sets win in volleyball on Tuesday night.

The SB girls hosted Hoopa and won 25-18, 25-15, 25-14.

Since dropping their first set in conference play to Ferndale, the Crusaders have won 27 straight sets on the way to a 9-0 Little 4 record.

After wrapping up the conference title last week, the Crusaders honored their four seniors on Tuesday, a group that includes Sahara Tupua, Anna Dorsch, Kayla Maples and Makinsey Lemley.

“It was an honor to coach my four seniors,” head coach Sejay Sarti said. “They will be missed next year.”

The seniors weren’t the only players to impress in Tuesday’s win.

Junior Scarlett Zerlang had a big night and finished with a team-high eight kills, while junior Brittyn Ikeya had an impressive 11 aces.

Dorsch added three blocks.

“The girls came out to play hard and it was fun to watch,” Sarti said. 

Another junior, Wau’Kel Blake, led Hoopa with a team-high nine kills, while freshman Vuunsip E-Kor added three kills.

Blake also had three aces, while Luella Cosce finished with a team-high 12 digs, E-Kor had nine and Naress Crawford had eight.

Taelyr Lewis-Tracy added a team-best 16 assists.

The SB coach also praised the Warriors’ effort and performance.

“Hoopa has gained momentum over the season and has improved immensely,” Sarti said. “These were tough sets.”
