By Ray Hamill — A change has been announced for one of the big weekend conference games.

With the Little 4 lead on the line, the Arcata Tigers and the Ferndale Wildcats will face off in a game that has become one of the most anticipated on the local high school football calendar in recent years.

The Saturday showdown has been moved forward from 2 p.m to 1 p.m. because there will be no JV game.

The Arcata Tigers have forfeited the JV game.

Contrary to an earlier report on Humboldt Sports and the MaxPreps schedule, the varsity game will be hosted by Ferndale and not Arcata, and will take place at Coach Carlson Wildcat Field.

The two schools shared the Little 4 title a year ago after splitting their two conference games.

And both varsity teams are 2-0 in conference.

With their forfeit win, the Ferndale JVs improve to 3-0 in the Little 4 and 7-0 overall and the Cats are in prime position to win this year’s championship halfway through the L4 schedule.

Also in varsity action this weekend, on Friday night, South Fork plays at Tomales,  St. Bernard’s plays at Del Norte and Hoopa travels to McKinleyville.

On Saturday night, the Eureka Loggers will host the Fortuna Huskies at the Redwood Bowl.
