After spending much of the past two months on the road, the College of the Redwoods volleyball team hosted a conference game against Shasta on Wednesday.
The visitors won the game 25-9, 25-22, 25-18.
But the CR players were happy to be playing on the North Coast again and playing in front of a home crowd.
“It felt great to finally be at home again. Our team have been road warriors the last two months,” CR head coach Macy Thomas said. “Our team would really like to thank everybody who came out to support. It was a really fun environment to play in.”
After a slow start to the night, the CR players grew into the game and gave the Knights a much tougher battle over the final two sets.
“While we were a little shaky in the first set, our team really got it together for set two,” Thomas said. “We put pressure on Shasta and we did a lot of great things.
“Unfortunately we just couldn’t finish.”
The head coach added that she was pleased with the effort.
“Our defense made some great plays. We were very scrappy overall,” she said. “And our offense had some amazing kills.”
With the loss, Redwoods dropped to 0-2 in conference play and 3-11 on the season.
Shasta improved to 2-0 and 6-13.
The CR women will be back in action next Wednesday when they host College of the Siskiyous in another conference game, giving local fans another chance to check out the team.
Game time is set for 4 p.m.
