The third round of H-DNL girls golf was the closest yet, with just one stroke separating the top three golfers on the day.
The league teams traveled to the Redwood Empire Golf & Country Club in Fortuna on Monday, and for the third straight week there was a different winner.
After finishing second in each of the first two rounds of league play, Del Norte’s Jaylee Keeling won a close race for the individual victory, shooting a 99 to lead the field.
Her teammate Bria Larson and Eureka’s Hailey Forster tied for the second-best score of the day with identical rounds of 100.
With the win, Keeling moved within one stroke of the season lead almost halfway through the league schedule.
Forster, who took the victory in the opening round of league play at Benbow two weeks ago, leads the season standings in what is now shaping up to be a two-horse race for this year’s championship.
With four rounds of league action still remaining, Larson sits third overall, 13 strokes behind her teammate.
McKinleyville’s Ingrid Monaghan had the fourth best round of the day with a 105, followed by Del Norte’s Taylor Homer, who shot a 113 to give the Warriors three of the top five finishers.
The Del Norte girls took the team victory, their second in three rounds.
The Warriors shot a combined 445, followed by Eureka (479), Arcata (483), McKinleyville (487) and Fortuna (521).
Last week’s individual winner, Eureka’s Sophia Zwald, placed sixth on the day with a 114, followed by Arcata’s Mira Rust-Kelley with a 118.
Macee Marquez led the way for the host Huskies with a round of 119, followed by Arcata’s Sabrina McDonald and Hailey Pepper, which each carded a 120.
The fourth round of league action will take place At the Eureka Municipal Golf Course on Oct. 2.
