Eureka girls prevail in home opener with balanced team performance

With the local high school volleyball season now under way, the Loggers entertained the Ferndale Wildcats in non-conference action at Eureka High on Tuesday night.

And it was a good night for the hosts, who swept both the varsity and JV games in their home openers.

The Eureka varsity won 25-11, 25-13, 25-10.

And the players were ready to go, taking care of business against the Little 4 school with a positive performance.

“I was happy with their energy and play as a team,” Eureka head coach Stephanie Napoleon said.

Junior standout Tiara Maualuga appears to have picked up this season just where she left off a year ago and finished the night with a team-high 12 kills.

Teammate Alena battle also impressed and added eight kills and five blocks, while Macy Secor and Eddy Hale both had good nights serving with seven and six aces, respectively.

Rounding out a balanced team performance for Eureka, Violla Kingsang added a team-high 11 assists, while Makenna McNamara had nine assists.

The Eureka JVs also won their match in two sets.

No stats were immediately available for the Ferndale girls.

The Loggers will continue their preparation for the Big 5 when they host St. Bernard’s next Tuesday night.
