With 17 returning players this fall, the Cal Poly Humboldt Women’s soccer team is ranked No. 6 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association preseason poll.
The Humboldt women open the new season with a non-conference showdown at home against Dominican on Thursday of next week.
And they’ll carry some expectations into the new campaign after qualifying for the CCAA tournament in each of the past three seasons.
Last year, the Jacks tied for fifth in the CCAA.
They posted an overall record of 8-8-3 and were 5-4-2 in conference.
Head coach Grant Landy has a key group of returning players, including two of the CCAA’s most dynamic forwards — Frida Duran Arellano and Heidie Muñoz.
Duran Arellano, who is a senior and a three-time All-CCAA honoree, is back to lead the attack, while Muñoz, who is the reigning 2024 CCAA Freshman of the Year, looks to build on a breakout debut season.
Also returning to the team are captains Alexis Blue and Josie Wolitzky, as well as Carson Thomson-Terrel, Camryn Patten, Morgan Young, Annie Hoffman, Marissa Volpe and Payton Heaney.
The Jacks also brought in four transfers and have a large freshman core of nine new faces as well.
The 2025 CCAA preseason poll was topped by Cal Poly Pomona, which received nine first-place votes and 141 points.
Cal State East Bay (118) is No. 2, followed by Cal State LA (110, 1 first-place vote), Stanislaus State (110, 1 first-place vote), and Cal State San Marcos (84, 1 first-place vote).
Humboldt came in close behind San Marcos with 83 points, placing sixth ahead of Cal State Monterey Bay (81) and the rest of the field.
The preseason conference poll was released on Monday.
