Mt. SAC Athletics
Former Eureka Logger Jackson Giacone is enjoying a successful spring on the baseball fields playing for Mt. SAC.
And he’ll be hoping to cap that with a state JC championship this month.
Giacone and the Mounties recently received the top seed for the SoCal playoffs after going 35-5 overall and 22-2 on the way to winning the South Coast Conference.
They opened their postseason campaign with a 5-0 win over No. 24 College of the Desert on Friday afternoon.
Game two of the opening-round three-game series is set for Saturday morning, with game three, if necessary, later in the day.
Giacone, who graduated from Eureka in 2022 and has also played for the Humboldt Crabs in 2022 and 2023, was held hitless in Friday’s win, but the former Logger is enjoying a big spring with the Mounties, nonetheless.
The local standout has appeared in 38 games in his first year with the team and is averaging .245 at the plate with 25 RBIs and two home runs.
The 6-foot-0, 190-pound third baseman/outfielder also has six doubles and seven stolen bases.
And he appears to be getting stronger late in the season after recently hitting a season-high four hits in an 18-1 win at Long Beach in late April.
If the Mounties advance past this weekend, they will play either No. 12 Cuesta or No. 13 Southwestern in next weekend’s Super Regionals.
