Three big NCS marks set at final regular-season HDN league meet

The H-DNL athletes are building momentum as we head towards the business end of the 2025 track and field season.

On Tuesday, at the fourth and final H-DNL regular-season meet of the spring in Crescent City, three of the league’s boys posted PRs that places them in the top eight in the North Coast Section this year.

Arcata junior Skyler Collenberg turned in the most impressive performance of the day on his way to taking first place in the shot put.

Collenberg’s throw of 53’ 0” not only beat his previous PR by more than two feet, but it also set a new school record at Arcata High and is the second best throw in the entire NCS this spring.

The old record had stood for 51 years.

Collenberg also placed second in the event at the prestigious Sacramento Meet of Champions over the weekend and he has the league’s best mark in both shot put and discus this spring.

Del Norte’s Sebastian Espinoza placed second in the shot put on Tuesday and also set a PR with a throw of 51’ 9”, which is the fifth best mark in the NCS this year, showcasing the league depth in the throwing events once again.

Espinoza’s teammate Deken Hanks also had a day to remember.

The outstanding junior won three events, including a narrow victory in the 100 meters by just four hundredths of a second over Fortuna’s Kavi Bolden.

Hanks crossed the line in 10.93 seconds, with Bolden finishing in a time of 10.97 seconds.

Hanks also edged Bolden for the win in the 200m in a time of 22.01 seconds, which is the eighth best time in the NCS this spring.

The Warriors junior also teamed with Colby Moore, Landon Balent and Mario Ledezma to win the 4x100m relay in what was a very dominating day for the Del Norte boys.

The host school placed first in nine of the 16 events on the way to a comfortable team win.
