The Wildcats pieced together their most complete performance of the season on Monday as they swept a non-conference softball doubleheader against Hayfork.
The Ferndale girls took game one 18-1 and followed that with a 13-0 win in game two, both in five innings.
With the two wins, the Cats improved to 6-7 on the season as they get set to resume their Little 4 schedule on Thursday.
“I thought it was probably our best day of all-around ball,” Ferndale head coach Jeremy Griffith said. “We threw a lot of strikes, we fielded the ball cleanly.”
Olivia Gossi got both wins in the circle, and she got plenty of offensive support as the Cats offense racked up 31 runs over the two games.
Senior Rainy Rodriguez led the way at the plate in the opener and finished 3-for-4 with four runs and two RBIs, while junior teammate Quinn Stokesberry finished 1-for-3 and drove in four runs.
Alayna Cooney (1-for-2, two runs) and Caleigh Griffith (1-for-3, three RBIs) each also made some noise at the plate in game one.
Gossi threw all five innings for the win in the circle, allowing just one hit and two walks and striking out eight.
The impressive sophomore kept the momentum going in game two and threw a complete-game two-hitter, while striking out four and allowing no walks.
She also finished 1-for-2 and drove in two runs.
Freshman Randi Rice led the Cats at the plate in game two, going 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs.
Rodriguez capped a good day with another hit and two more RBIs, while Madison Gossi also had a hit in the win.
Next up is a big conference doubleheader at South Fork on Thursday, beginning at 2 p.m.
Hayfork remains winless on the season and dropped to 0-8.
