Del Norte’s Price hits state mark for CR, as several locals impress

It was another successful weekend for the College of the Redwoods track and field team at the Wildcat Invite in Chico, and for one of their athletes in particular.

Former Del Norte Warrior Bryson Price had a big showing in a par of events, including the shot put, where he finished fifth with a state qualifying throw of 46’ 5’.

Price also placed 11th in the hammer with a throw of 124’ 3”.

One week after setting a new school record in the women’s hammer throw (143’ 4”), former South Fork Cub Chase McFarland continued to impress.

The CR sophomore placed seventh in the same event with a throw of 123’ 10”, while teammate Violet Cayton was two spots further back in ninth with a throw of 119’ 1”.

McFarland also impressed in the shot put, placing 11th with a throw of 28’ 11”, while Cayton was also 13th in the javelin with a throw of 83’ 11”. 

McKinleyville’s Kylar Tiller also had a PR in hammer, placing seventh with a throw of 138’ 8”.

Other locals who impressed included former Fortuna Husky Russell Pascascio and former St. Bernard’s Crusader Rihana Fontenot-Cornely.

Pascascio, who is enjoying a big start to his college career, placed second in the high jump with a jump of 6’ 3” and 12th in the long jump with a jump of 19’ 1”.

Fontenot-Cornely finished ninth in the women’s high jump with a jump of 4’ 6”.

On the track, Jordyn Bowers placed seventh for CR in the 100 meters, crossing the finish line in 11 seconds flat, while Fortuna’s Luke Kamrud set a PR in the 200m with a time 23.09 seconds.

Another former Husky, Gabby Crosswhite had a double PR day, setting new marks in both the 1500m and 800m with times of 5 minutes, 36.19 seconds and 2:42.53, respectively.
