The College of the Redwoods and Cal Poly Humboldt men’s basketball teams got back to winning ways on Saturday.

One week after a loss at Shasta, the CR men welcomed Siskiyous to Eureka and won 89-75.

Ty Dahlin, who has enjoyed a strong start to conference play, continued to impress and finished with a team-high 18 points in the win, while teammate Brandon Lucas added 15 points.

But it was the team bench players that helped get the Corsairs going.

“Our second unit came in and really jump-started the game,” CR head coach Ryan Bisio said. “Marcos (Rosales), Isai (Sow), those two turned the heat up defensively and helped us find some good stuff in transition. Our aggressiveness in transition all day was triggered by our second unit.”

Rosales and Sow each also had an impact on offense and finished with 13 and 11 points, respectively.

Mason Mottashed also had 13 ponints for CR, which improved to 2-1 in the Golden Valley Conference and 15-6 overall.

The Corsairs led 40-34 at halftime and hit 13 3-pointers on the day in a game they grew into.

“We did a great job surging at the start of the second half,” Bisio said. “We had the right balance of urgency and toughness and confidence. Much better than the way we started the game.

“A conference win in January should be celebrated no matter the circumstances. We would have liked to close the game a little cleaner but I’m happy with the way we’re finding our stride right now. We have to keep growing and let it rip.”

With the win, the CR men move into a four-way tie with Butte, Shasta and Lassen for the conference lead.

Next up, the Corsairs will travel o play at Feather River (1-2, 13-7) on Thursday, with tip off set for 5:30 p.m.

The CR women also were in action against Siskiyous on Saturday, but lost a close game 73-70.

The Siskiyous women improved to 2-0 in conference.

Nora Tałty had a big day for the Corsairs and scored a team-high 27 points, while Kyla Albee also impressed and added 19 points.

Moriah Bowles chipped in 10 points.

With the loss, the CR women dropped 0-3 in the GVC and 7-12 overall.

The Cal Poly Humboldt teams, meanwhile, were in action at Cal State San Marcos.

The men’s team ended a two-game losing skid with a 64-56 win.

The Jacks are now 4-6 in conference and 8-7 overall, as they moved up three spots to seventh in the conference standings.

The women’s team, however, lost 70-60 and dropped to 4-6 in conference and 5-11 overall.

Both CPH teams return home to play Cal State Los Angeles on Thursday.
