VIDEO — Jacks honor state champs at halftime of Saturday’s game

By Ray Hamill — Cal Poly Humboldt had some special guests on hand for the weekend conference basketball games.

The Lumberjacks hosted Cal Poly Pomona in men’s and women’s action at Lumberjack Arena on Saturday afternoon, and at halftime of the men’s game they introduced the Arcata High state winning football team to the home fans.

Several of the Arcata players and coaches were on hand for the occasion, along with the state championship trophy, and they took the court during the interval, where they cheered by a large crowd in attendance.

Last month, the Tigers secured their first-ever state championship in football, defeating Portola 27-21 in a thrilling overtime championship game.

The state victory capped the greatest season in team history and followed the program’s first-ever North Coast Section and NorCal Regional championships.

The state title was the fifth for the H-DNL in the past decade.

St. Bernard’s also won state titles in 2015 and 2019, Fortuna won one in 2017 and Ferndale won a state crown in 2023.
