Hoopa boys and girls travel to Modoc for non-conference games

Both Hoopa basketball teams took a break from conference action to play at Modoc on Monday night.

The Braves swept the varsity doubleheader, with the boys winning 60-43 and the girls winning 66-52.

Senior Ivy Lamebear continued to lead the way offensively for the Hoopa girls and finished with a team-high 28 points in the loss, including an impressive six 3-pointers.

The hosts started the stronger of the two teams and led by eight points after the opening quarter, but the Warriors would battle back to tie things up (31-31) going into halftime.

The second half, however belonged to the Braves, who outscored their opponents in each off the final two quarters to secure the victory. 

No other stats were immediately available for the Warriors, who dropped to 8-6 on the season.

The Hoopa boys, meanwhile, were outscored in each of the first two quarters and trailed by 12 at halftime (33-21).

The Warriors were led as usual by seniors Brandon Romero and Lyle McKinnon.

Romero scored a team-high 11 points and also had six rebounds, while McKinnon added 10 points and also had six rebounds.

Carlos Anzora chipped in seven points for Hoopa, while Ish E-kor and Charles Sorrel each added five points.

E-kor also had a team-best three steals.

With the loss, the Warriors dropped to 12-5 on the season.

Both Hoopa teams will resume conference play later in the week.

On Thursday night, the Hoopa girls play Ferndale in a pivotal Little 4 showdown between the two conference rivals.

The following night, the Hoopa boys play at Ferndale.

Both of those games are scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
