GIRLS ROUNDUP — Unbeaten Crusaders top Oroville, go to 7-0

The St. Bernard’s Crusaders continued their unbeaten start to the season with their seventh win in seven games.

Playing at the Kelseyville tournament, the Crusaders cruised to a comfortable 60-13 victory over Oroville with another big defensive performance.

The SB girls have now held four of their first seven opponents of the season below 20 points.

Laila Florvilus led the way with 21 points, while teammate Samantha Sundberg added 16 points, Jocelyn Sundberg had seven points and Aliyah Vigil six.

The Crusaders will face a much tougher opponent in Friday’s tournament semifinals, when they play Division-3 Pinole Valley.

Fortuna 43, Pierce 31

The Huskies tipped off the Orland Lady Trojans Invitational tournament with a 12-point win over Pierce.

With the win, the Huskies improved to 7-3.

No stats were immediately available.

The Huskies continue tournament play against Orland on Friday night at 7:30.

Healdsburg 51, Ferndale 36

The Wildcats dropped their opening game at the Kelseyville tournament on Thursday afternoon, falling to a quality Healdsburg team that improved to 8-1.

Michaela Ellsmore led the Cats with 12 points, while teammate Madison Gossi added 11 points.

Offensively, the Ferndale girls managed just three points in the third quarter as the Greyhounds began to take control.

Healdsburg is a Division-4 school, while Ferndale is a Division-6 school.

The Wildcats, who dropped to 5-3, will try to bounce back when they continue tournament play on Friday.

Cardinal Newman 53, Arcata 44

The Tigers dropped their opening game at the Justin-Siena Christmas Classic on Thursday night.

The loss ended a four-game winning streak for the Arcata girls, who dropped to 5-4.

Cardinal Newman improved to 6-2.

No stats were immediately available for Arcata.

Eureka 58, San Domenico 43

The Loggers continued to roll with another impressive win on Thursday night in their opening game at the Maria Carrillo tournament.

Several players stood out for Eureka, which stretched its winning streak to seven straight and improved to 9-1.

Samara Gaither scored a team-high 19 points in the win, while teammate Tiara Maualuga added 18 points.

Nashaya Williams and Mallorie Beauchamp both had big games at the defensive end of the floor, while Baylie Battle gave the team some big minutes and chipped in six points.

“Great team effort tonight,” is how head coach Cliff Napoleon described the performance.

The Loggers, who have won back-to-back tournaments the past two weekends and are ranked No. 7 in the entire North Coast Section, according to MaxPreps, will continue tournament play against Analy on Friday at 2:30 p.m.
