Just a few days after she was named to the all-tournament team at the Peyo Classic, Arcata junior Mae Wolford continued to impress in a girls basketball game at Hoopa on Tuesday night.
The impressive Wolford led the Tigers’ charge in a 58-42 win and finished with a double-double.
The junior standout scored a game-high 24 points and pulled down 12 rebounds.
Her twin sister Tae also impressed in the win, as did Arcata senior Addy Wingate.
Tae Wolford had a big all-around game and finished with nine points, 10 rebounds and five assists, while Wingate added eight points and seven rebounds.
The Tigers also got big contributions from their bigs, which helped set up their teammates for success.
“Our bigs rotation has been looking really good,” Arcata head coach Charlie Espinoza said. “Emmerson Brownfield, Kyla Kinyon and Izzy Allen have been coming off the bench and impacting the game with physicality and effort.”
With the win, the Tigers improved to 2-3.
No stats or details were immediately available for Hoopa, which dropped to 1-3.
Espinoza praised the effort of the Hoopa players.
“Hoopa came out ready to roll and we had to buckle in and get to work,” he said.
Next up, the Tigers will travel to play at the East Nicolaus tournament, opening against the host school on Thursday at 11:30 a.m., while the Warriors will play at the Trinity Holiday Classic, tipping off against Modoc on Thursday afternoon at 3:15 p.m.
