Fortuna girls impress at season-opening tournament

If their season opener is any indication, the Fortuna girls wrestling team appears ready to make some noise on the mats this winter.

On Saturday, the Huskies traveled to Crescent City to compete at the annual Battle of the Border tournament, with several of their grapplers impressing.

Most notably Allison Watson.

Competing in the 140-pound girls division, Watson led the way for the Huskies and placed first to get her season off to a flying start.

Four other Fortuna girls placed in the top three in their weight classes.

At 125 pounds, Clara Posey placed second.

Tiffany Krause, Maliah Chang and Winter Juul each also took third in their respective divisions.

The Battle at the Border is the traditional season opening event for the H-DNL teams.

League competition begins in the new year.

If H-DNL coaches would like coverage for their wrestlers they are encouraged to forward details to Humboldt Sports for inclusion.
