Gaither leads the way as Eureka girls top Hoopa in season opener

Samara Gaither and the Eureka Loggers got the new basketball season off to a winning start on Tuesday night when they welcomed the Hoopa Warriors to Jay Willard Gymnasium.

Gaither scored a game-high 27 points and the Loggers won 70-47.

The standout senior was one of three Eureka players to score in double digits.

Impressive sophomore Tiara Maualuga added 15 points, while senior teammate Mallorie Beauchamp finished with 10 points.

Nashaya Williams also chipped in eight points in the win.

The Warriors were led by Harmony Nelson, who has quickly adapted from a strong season on the volleyball court to the basketball court.

The Hoopa senior led her team with 18 points.

Ivy Lamebear added 15 points for the Warriors, while Maggie Morris had nine points.
