The Cal Poly Humboldt women’s soccer team returned to the postseason for the third straight year over the weekend, but the Jacks lost their California Collegiate Athletic Association tournament opener.

The Jacks were seeded No. 5 for the six-team tournament and lost at No. 4 Stanislaus State by a score of 1-0.

The Humboldt women enjoyed another strong season and closed out with a record of 8-8-3 overall and 5-4-2 in conference play.

Stanislaus State’s Makeila Yancey scored the only goal of the game in the 43rd minute, as the Warriors advanced to this week’s tournament semifinals.

The Jacks pushed hard for an equalizer in the second half and had seven shots on goal for the period but were unable to find the back of the net.

“I want to congratulate Stanislaus on advancing,” Humboldt head coach Grant Landy said. “They played well today and capitalized on their scoring chance.

“I have nothing but good thoughts about how this team battled all year. Our second half was a great response and we got close on scoring the equalizing goal.

“Our outgoing seniors will be missed terribly. They helped put our program on the map and made Humboldt women’s soccer history with three straight trips to conference tournament, as well as a semifinal appearance in 2023.

“They are amazing soccer players but they are even more amazing people. I was blessed to be able to coach them and see them grow in our program. So proud of all they have achieved while at Cal Poly Humboldt.”
