Shorthanded CR women win big on the road at Contra Costa

The College of the Redwoods women’s basketball team traveled to Contra Costa on Saturday and came away with a 63-29 win.

The victory was the second of the young season for the Corsairs, who improved to 2-1.

A shorthanded CR team traveled with just six players available, three of whom finished with a double-double.

The always impressive Alia Prentiss scored a game-high 20 points and also had 11 rebounds and four steals, while Aniah Gaither added 18 rebounds and 14 points.

Former McKinleyville Panther Kimberly Lewis also had a good game for CR and chipped in 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Lewis also impressed on defense.

“The ladies took care of business on the road, and did a good job battling with only six players,” head coach Bree Northern said. “Kimberly Lewis did a great job working hard the whole game and pressuring Contra Costa’s guards.

“I’m looking forward to getting back in the gym next week to get ready for our next game.”
