It was a tough night for the H-DNL teams in the North Coast Section volleyball playoffs on Saturday night.
All three teams involved lost their quarterfinal matchups to end their seasons.
In Division 4, the No. 2 seeded Arcata Tigers fell in four sets to No. 7 Encinal at Arcata High, 25-22, 19-25, 25-13, 25-14.
In Division 6, No. 6 St. Bernard’s fell in four sets at No. 3 North Hills Christian and No. 10 Ferndale lost in straight sets at No. 2 St. Vincent de Paul.
The Crusaders lost their match by a score of 25-20, 25-17, 20-25, 25-20.
The Wildcats lost 25-17, 25-17, 25-19.
The losses for the two Little 5 schools ended any hopes of an all-local semifinal showdown and St. Vincent de Paul and North Hills Christian will now face off against each other on Wednesday with a place in the championship game up for grabs.
Both St. Bernard’s and Ferndale won their first-round playoff matchups on Wednesday, with the Crusaders beating Anderson Valley and the Wildcats upsetting No. 7 Point Arena on the road.
The Encinal girls will also play for a place in the Division-4 championship game when they play at No. 6 Rancho Cotate on Wednesday night.
The Arcata Tigers, who won this year’s Big 5 championship, had a first-round bye in the postseason.
