
Submitted photos – CR’s Dakota Sanders won all three of his matches by pin on the way to winning the 125-pound bracket at the weekend CR tournament.
It was a busy weekend for the College of the Redwoods wrestlers and a successful one for three Corsairs in particular.
On Friday night, the CR men hosted Sacramento City College in a dual meet and lost 45-12, and on the following day they hosted a first wrestling tournament in more than 40 years.
The four-team Rumble in the Redwoods Tournament was won by Sacramento City College with 136 points, followed by Lassen (98), Sierra College (65.5) and Redwoods (37.5).
Former Arcata Tigers Dakota Sanders and Brycen Collinson both enjoyed big weekends for the host school, along with teammate Joey Smith.
Sanders and Collinson each won their matches in Friday night’s dual meet.
Sanders won at 125 pounds, pinning the No. 8 wrester in the state, Daniel Arellano, while Collinson won his heavyweight match against Jai Guerra, also by pin.
Sanders would carry his impressive form into Saturday’s tournament and took first place in his weight bracket, ounce again pinning Arellano in the final to cap an outstanding weekend.
Sanders won all three of his tournament matches by pin and was named the Most Outstanding Lower Weight Wrestler at the tournament.
Smith also had a good tournament and placed fourth in the 141-pound bracket.
