Perfect Nelson, Tigers cap season to remember at Baywood

Submitted photos – Head coach Troy Ghisetti and the Arcata girls celebrate their league championship at Baywood on Monday.

Arcata senior Madyson Nelson completed a perfect run through league play with her seventh victory in seven rounds of H-DNL girls golf on Monday.

Competing at Baywood Golf & Country Club in Arcata, the dominating senior left no doubt as to who was the best golfer in league this season with a final round of 98.

And as expected, she took the season championship by a wide margin, beating the rest of the field by a remarkable 49 strokes.

However, for the first time this season she did not take the win outright, with Eureka’s Hailey Forster also carding a 98 to tie Nelson for the low round of the day.

Forster’s round beat her previous low score in league play by seven strokes and it was the first time this season she broke 100.

Nelson’s Arcata teammate Lily Cunningham also had a good round as she continued her late-season surge.

Cunningham broke 100 for the second straight week and carded a 99 to place third on the day.

That impressive round also saw Cunningham finish second overall to Nelson in the season standings.

The dominating Arcata girls took the team win once again and also capped a perfect run through the H-DNL with their seventh victory in seven rounds of league play.

And that secured a runaway team championship for head coach Troy Ghisetti and his golfers.

St. Bernard’s Ingrid Monaghan placed third in the final season standings, followed by Del Norte’s Bria Larson in fourth, Arcata’s Lucia Hernandez in fifth, St. Bernard’s Estella Monaghan in sixth and Fortuna’s Mariah Bravo in seventh.
