Arcata’s Madyson Nelson continued to dominate the rest of the field in the most recent round of H-DNL girls golf at Del Norte on Thursday.
The senior standout took another step towards a second straight league title with her sixth win in six rounds of league play this fall.
And she appears to be getting better as the season progresses.
Nelson shot a season-best round of 93 for a three-stroke victory and further solidified her lead in the season standings.
With just one round of league play remaining, the runaway league leader now holds a 44-stroke lead and she can officially clinch the H-DNL crown at Baywood in Arcata on Monday.
And she’s not the only Arcata golfer who has impressed this season.
The Tigers had three of the top four in this week’s round as they continue to cruise towards another team league title.
On Thursday, they took the team win for the sixth time in six rounds of league action, carding a 411, which was 32 strokes better than second-placed Del Norte.
They now hold a remarkable 285-stroke lead in the team season standings and will officially be crowned league champs early next week.
Arcata’s Lily Cunningham had the second best individual round of the day on Thursday, carding a season-best 96, which was just three strokes behind Nelson and the first time she broke 100 in league play this fall.
Teammate Lucia Hernnadez also impressed with her best round of the season and shot a 98 to place fourth on the day.
Fortuna’s Mariah Bravo prevented the Tigers from taking the top four spots on the day and shot a 97 to place third.

The Del Norte girls team are second in the season team standings behind league leaders Arcata.

The Arcata Tigers will be crowned league champs next week.
It was also Bravo’s best round of the season, beating her previous best round by an impressive 15 strokes.
Del Norte’s Bria Larson had the fifth best round of the day with a 101, while St. Bernard’s Ingrid Monaghan was next best with a round of 102.
Eureka’s Hailey Forester (105), McKinleyville’s Addie Morrison (108), St. Bernard’s Estella Monaghan (108) and Del Norte’s Charley Tygart (109) rounded out the top 10 individual scores of the day.
While Nelson is the runaway leader in the season standings, there are exciting battles shaping up for second and third going into the final day of action.
Hernandez is currently second (526), with Cunningham just four strokes back (530) and Ingrid Monaghan just two strokes further back (532).
Larson (540), Estella Monaghan (552) and Bravo (559) currently round out the top seven, which represent the all-league spots.
Morrison also remains in the chase for an all-league finish and sits just three strokes behind Bravo in eighth.
