Arcata’s Madyson Nelson posted another impressive round in H-DNL girls golf on Thursday.
The senior standout, who is the defending league champion, won for the second time in two rounds of league play this season, posting the low score at Benbow.
This time, however, it was a little closer.
After winning by 13 strokes in the opening round at Beau Pre Golf Course last week, Nelson shot a 101 at Benbow to beat the field by three strokes this time around.
She now holds an eight-stroke lead in the season standings with five rounds still remaining.
McKinleyville’s Jaxin Bartoo had the second best round of the day with a 104 and moved up to second in the season standings.
Four golfers tied for third on the day.
St. Bernard’s Estella Monaghan, Arcata’s Lucia Hernandez, Eureka’s Hayley Forester and McKinleyville’s Addie Morrison each shot a 108.
Four different schools were represented in the top six.
Ingrid Monaghan also impressed and carded a 109 for a seventh-place finish, with Arcata’s Julia Omaha (110), Arcata’s Lily Cunningham (111) and Fortuna’s Mariah Bravo (112) rounding out the top 10.
Charley Tygart paced the Del Norte girls with a round of 114.
